AI Constructs
AI Construct is a term encompassing intelligent agents, aggregates, and devices. Discovery Machine leverages AI Constructs to create experiences. These experiences can be used for training or to anticipate operational situations. Discovery Machine AI Constructs leverage data and subject matter expertise captured from your organizations’ leading experts and deploys it into any scene or setting.
Every Discovery Machine AI Construct is built in compliance with the MUSIC® Specification, which makes them independent from any one specific simulation or operational environment and empowers the user to transition from one simulation environment to another as the training need shifts, without needing to throw away previous effort.
Discovery Machine AI Constructs are deployed in the following roles:
AI Role Players
An AI Role Player replaces a human role player in large-scale modeling and simulation events. For training, an AI Role Player can replace a teammate, an adversary, a civilian, or even an intelligent device; and are designed to behave and react just like a human would. AI Role Players can execute complex missions or just simply go about their daily tasks. AI Role Players can represent an individual, an aggregate such as a unit (e.g. company or battalion), or crew of a vehicle such as a ship or aircraft. Each AI Role Player can communicate with each other and to human trainees using a mixture of cutting-edge voice technologies.
AI Instructors
An AI Instructor watches, coaches, assesses, and grades a learner within any type of training event. It does this by combining domain knowledge with real-time information to suggest ways to improve. Discovery Machine® AI Instructors can passively monitor in the background, provide active verbal instructions, and even take the controls and show demonstrations of best practices.
AI Advisors
An AI Advisor is your pocket expert, wingman, or confidant; advising personnel in every activity that requires expertise. Whether you need operational techniques, tactical guidance, or training advice, an AI Advisor is ready to assist. More than just an assistant, an AI Advisor acts as a consultant, mentor, and guide to provide suggestions based on experience.

AI Commanders
An AI Commander plans operations and directs entities within training, simulation, mission rehearsal or wargaming environments. These entities can be other AI Constructs (AI Role Players, AI Advisors, AI Instructors) or simple entities not using AI. The AI Commander brings strategic and tactical expertise to the battle, typically employing AI planning techniques and knowledge of the battlespace including but not limited to available units and their capabilities, terrain understanding, logistic knowledge and assessment of enemy tactics.
Knowledge Service Engine (KSE)
The Knowledge Service Engine is the AI engine which powers every AI Role Player, AI Advisor, AI Instructor, and AI Commander that Discovery Machine creates.
By combining more than 25 years of AI research with proprietary techniques, the Knowledge Service Engine offers a best-of-breed approach to cognitive decision-making that is actionable in data-sparse domains. Plus, all AI deployed with the Knowledge Service Engine can talk with other AI entities and human operators via text commands and voice commands, making for a truly immersive experience.
The Knowledge Service Engine can be integrated into any simulation environment to provide cognitive decision-making for AI using the MUSIC Specification. The Knowledge Service Engine can even handle sensitive information if required and has been deployed in classified environments.
