Discovery Machine, Inc. Pushes Artificial Intelligence Boundaries in Navy Training
Recently, the industry leading and award winning team from Discovery Machine travelled to Orlando. The purpose of the trip was to discuss Discovery Machine Inc.’s progress and gather further Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) knowledge for the artificial intelligence based simulation. Key Navy personnel involved in the discussions included two of the Navy’s top experts in ASW: Glenn White, COMPACFLT N711 Maritime Synthetic Training Specialist/Office of Naval Research HIFAST-CMD and Ron Norwood, Principle Investigator for ASW Training.
Discovery Machine has made previous trips to the Orlando area to capture the expert knowledge of how a helicopter pilot would perform anti-submarine warfare. As a result of these trips, Discovery Machine was able to create expert level missions automated with artificial intelligence. The purpose of this trip was to validate Discovery Machine’s efforts to date and to discuss future initiatives. “The Discovery Machine Methodology is designed in a way that expert knowledge is captured with the intent to deploy,” said Anna Griffith, CEO of Discovery Machine. “An integral step prior to deployment is to validate a model with an expert by checking that the documented knowledge is being utilized correctly.”
The missions validated during this trip contained numerous cutting-edge features including incorporation of external voice recognition software and communication between various automated entities such as surface ships, submarines, and helicopters. Among the information validated was the specific language protocol between the Antisubmarine Warfare Tactical Support Center (ASTAC) and a helicopter commander. Future plans and works in progress were also demonstrated and discussed during this trip.
