Discovery Machine Meets Needs of Training and Simulation Industry with New Release
Discovery Machine recently released the Knowledge Service Modeler 6.0. This release addresses the needs of the training and simulation industry by incorporating user friendly knowledge acquisition features and enhanced capabilities to facilitate quick, cost-effective automation of complex cognitive knowledge.
Capturing the behavioral knowledge of subject matter experts is a vital part of building effective virtual training and simulation environments. The realism of a military training scenario is largely determined by the actions of constructive entities on both an individual and group level. However, current training exercises require large numbers of participants who manually guide constructive entities within the scenario. Stand alone trainers require that instructors operate the constructive entities instead of observing and instructing students.
Similarly, version 6.0 allows realistic behaviors to be created for non-player characters in a video game. Typically, video games create an illusion of intelligence by playing different animations if certain events arise. Discovery Machine questions that paradigm and takes a step closer to true artificial intelligence by allowing creation of logical reactions to avoid an undesirable situation and drive a character.
“Discovery Machine is a leader in developing intelligent behaviors for constructive entities,” says Anna Griffith, CEO of Discovery Machine. “We are now putting that power in the hands of instructors and subject matter experts.”
A need exists for intelligent, automated units that enable effective training without mass participation of active duty players, retired personnel, and instructors. Intelligent agents are the solution to this problem, but have been difficult to construct and deploy, requiring long software engineering cycles and a considerable time investment with an expert to document their knowledge.
The Knowledge Service Modeler enables quick development of domain specific Consoles for intelligent behavior creation by subject matter experts and instructors. Consoles enable experts and instructors to encode intelligent behaviors on their desktop computers without requiring a computer programmer or complex computer skills. Consoles can be created for a wide range of domains such as command leadership, cultural awareness, and anti-submarine warfare.
Consoles significantly reduce software engineering and knowledge engineering efforts needed to produce and evolve intelligent behaviors for fully automated synthetic entities. The resulting intelligent behaviors are interoperable and can be integrated with existing simulation environments quickly and easily.
