Retired US Navy Commander Visits Discovery Machine Headquarters

During the week of September 8th, 2009 Mr. William Rearick, a retired US Navy Commander and principal military analyst for Alion Science and Technology Corp., visited Discovery Machine headquarters to assist in a behavior modeling effort. This effort is part of a contract with the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) to improve current Navy training simulations. “Discovery Machine is helping the Navy increase training results while facing decreasing budgets. We will be eliminating time and resources required to create and update synthetic training,” says Anna Griffith, CEO and founder of Discovery Machine.

Mr. Rearick’s experiences on submarines as Electrical and Interior Communications Officer, Reactor Controls Assistant, Anti-Submarine Warfare Coordinator, and others make him a perfect source of knowledge for completing this endeavor. With Mr. Rearick’s assistance, Discovery Machine will encode behaviors for use in a training environment. These behaviors will be easily accessible and will incorporate realistic tactics for training initiatives, allowing military personnel to update training programs more quickly. In addition, the new behaviors for training simulations will more accurately reflect current real world trends and thus be much more effective at addressing real life situations.

Ultimately, the new features to be added by Discovery Machine will allow for increased positive training results and reduce the total expenditure on improvements to synthetic training environments. In addition, they will allow for rapid adaptation which will keep training programs up to date reducing time and cost in developing new releases of a particular training program.
