Embedding ExpertiseOne of the most difficult problems confronted by technologists is the application of expertise and its integration with existing knowledge and software. Discovery Machine, Inc. enables expertise to be captured and then integrated into other technology and organizations. The capture of expertise is done through a combination of our modeling tools and our knowledge engineering methodology. This results in a set of executable models that provide solutions to problems of interest in the particular domain. In the simplest case, models serve as an excellent communication tool. This is because the models are graphical and easy to understand by both experts and non-experts in the domain. Since the models are represented in a formal language, their usefulness can go way beyond mere communication. Discovery Machine models can be leveraged in several ways, including: Executable softwareProcess models can be executed in the Discovery Machine Modeler or a Discovery Machine Custom Console . The models are executable like software written in traditional computer languages. Unlike traditional software languages, the graphical nature of the model makes it transparent to non-programmers. This allows the expert to be able to easily verify and extend the model. XML import/exportModels can be exported as an eXtensible Markup Language (XML) file that can be interpreted by other software systems in order to utilize the process and knowledge structures. XML files from other DM models can be imported by the DM Modeler and re-used. CompilationProcess models can be compiled as a Discovery Machine Gear (DM Gear). The Gear can then be executed with the DM GearRunner or integrated with existing software systems through the DM Gear Application Programming Interface (Gear API). Datasource IntegrationDM models can be integrated with datasources in order to import and export data. The datasources may include databases, spreadsheets, websites, text files, etc. Software Library IntegrationThe DM Modeler allows the user to easily connect to existing software libraries through the Foreign Function Interface. The library functions can be directly accessed by process models, in the same way that pre-defined functions are called. PluginsDiscovery Machine, Inc. can customize its tools to provide a DM Plug-In for existing applications. |
