Discovery Machine™ Inc. Announces Patent Award

Williamsport, PA, December 22, 2006—Discovery Machine Inc. (DMI) has announced the US Patent Office awarded them their first patent award entitled: "System & Method for Collecting & Representing Knowledge Hierarchies."

This technology, in development for over seven years, combines the Task-Method-Knowledge and Structure-Behavior-Function ontologies into one language that combines robust modeling capabilities of both strategies and knowledge.

“This patent represents a key differentiator of our products,” said Todd Griffith, Discovery Machine’s co-founder and CTO.  “There are cognitive science based tools that model process and there are tools that model concepts, but our language provides a relationship between these two ontologies that is unique.  We have solved real-world problems with our language and products that showed we can address the difficulties often associated with knowledge acquisition.”

Discovery Machine provides a portfolio of products including a methodology and services.  These products are all based on the language that started as this combination of the TMK and SBF ontologies.

“This is an important event for Discovery Machine, its partners, and investors,” said Howard Lewis, DMI’s President and CEO.  “This award validates what we knew all along – we provide a unique and proven solution for capturing and leveraging real-world expertise into software systems.”
