Discovery Machine™ Inc. introduces three key features in Version 4.1 and Eclipse Public License open source initiatives

Santa Clara, CA—Discovery Machine Inc. has launched the new, feature-rich Version 4.1 of its Expertise Encoding and Execution Workshop (E 3W) as well as open source initiatives under the Eclipse Public License Agreement. DMI made the announcement at EclipseCon 2006, the annual technical and user international conference spotlighting the Eclipse open source platform.

Discovery Machine’s capabilities represent a paradigm shift in knowledge capture and engineering. The software gives knowledge experts—strategists, scientists, researchers and others—the ability to build working models, simulations and intelligent agents without the need for scripting languages or complex rule-based systems. Discovery Machine has been proven in the defense, aerospace, and biomedical research arenas, and the company has partnered with the Office of Naval Research (ONR), the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA), Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Laboratories, Northrop Grumman Newport News, Alion Science and Technology-BMH Operation and Global InfoTek Inc.

Version 4.1 enhancements include three major features: a sketch editor to quickly, informally build knowledge hierarchies; a results viewer for easy viewing of information logged as a result of running a strategy; and an update of Discovery Machine’s architecture to enable partners to build customized dashboards.

“This launch pushes the potential for productivity gains well beyond 100-fold,” said DMI’s Chief Technology Officer and co-founder Todd Griffith. “Discovery Machine enhances real-time decision-making, automates complex reasoning, and gives decision-makers an improved ability to react in real time to unpredicted events. P roductivity is our core value in both the artificial intelligence and the modeling and simulation arenas. There is a huge burst of energy happening right now in these areas.”

“By opening key parts of our portfolio under the Eclipse Public License open source agreement, we are streamlining the use of Discovery Machine in the Eclipse framework—our framework of choice,” Griffith said. “Now it’s just a matter of letting imaginations take off. Knowledge engineering as we have known it is on the crest of an entirely new wave.”

“The Eclipse community fosters creativity and innovation, so it is great to have the Discovery Machine software as a part of this community and built on the Eclipse Platform,” said Mike Milinkovich, Executive Director of the Eclipse Foundation. “Discovery Machine has also been an active participant in the Foundation. They are part of an ecosystem of vendors who help make the Eclipse community so vital and vibrant.”

Version 4.1, which works on both Microsoft and Linux systems, is available by contacting E3W_sales@discoverymachine.com. A Macintosh OS X version is planned for later in 2006. A plug-in is available for BIOSPICE and an Eclipse plug-in is under construction.

Discovery Machine will be attending EclipseCon 2006 in Santa Clara, CA from March 20-23. Discovery Machine will be located in booth 715.

Discovery Machine Inc. is a privately held, woman-owned small business with headquarters in Williamsport, PA, and offices in Raleigh, NC, the heart of the Research Triangle.

Founded in 1999, DMI immediately gained recognition for its novel approach to knowledge acquisition and engineering. DMI’s mission—to enable experts to capture and leverage knowledge—has made it possible for experts in national defense, homeland security, aerospace and life sciences to leverage knowledge in a manner never before achievable.
