Griffith presents at 2005 I/ITSEC Conference

Dr. Todd Griffith, co-founder of Discovery Machine Inc. (DMI), is among the presenters at the annual Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation & Education Conference Nov. 28-Dec. 1 in Orlando, FL.

At the conceptual modeling session on Wednesday, Nov. 30, Griffith will present "Composable Behavior Modeling System for Rapidly Constructing Human Behaviors." The paper is co-authored by C. J. Garcia. It will appear in the conference proceedings. The conference, entitled "One Team. One Fight. One Training Future," will be held at the Orange County Convention Center.

Discovery Machine demonstrates social network modeling

The Army’s world-class National Training Center (NTC) at Fort Irwin, CA, has established a micro-version of Iraq in the desert, including towns of Arabic-speaking actors. Its objective is to prepare soldiers for deployment in Iraq.  In Iraqi society, social networks—family ties and work relationships—are important influencers of attitudes toward U.S. soldiers. Discovery Machine Inc. recently constructed a demonstration model that enables an observer/controller in the field to specify an event—such as “Insulted Ahmed"—to determine how this insult would propagate attitudes throughout the network. This could then display, for example, that Ahmed’s uncle, the town mayor, would be less cooperative.

DMI was instrumental in formulating the solutions and creating the prototype for this initiative.
